Mood Support I – Omega-3

Exciting research studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids are critical for the structure and function of the human brain. EPA, an important omega-3 fatty acid found in oily fish and seafood, has emerged as a mood-regulating chemical. Studies show that EPA is vital for communication within and between nerve cells. Human studies have shown that fish oil rich in EPA is helpful in mood regulation. Research studies have typically used doses between 1 and 2 grams (1000-2000mg) of EPA per day.
Genuine Health provides a unique EPA supplement that contains 500mg of pure EPA per capsule. Each capsule is enteric-coated to eliminate digestive issues, fishy repeat and aftertaste.

Mood Support II - Vitamins & Minerals
As beneficial as omega-3 fatty acids may be in
human mood support, these oils cannot be viewed
in nutritional isolation. Other nutrients stand
out also, and some, like zinc, selenium and
folic acid, are involved in the metabolism of
omega-3 fatty acids. Research shows that certain
vitamins and minerals may play unique roles when
it comes to a healthy mental outlook.
Zinc – a number of studies have shown that zinc
levels are low in patients with depressive
disorders. Oral supplementation with zinc and
antidepressant medications has been shown to be
better than the antidepressant taken with a
placebo.
Folic Acid – blood levels of folate have been
shown to be consistently low in depressive
disorders (about 25% lower on average). Low
levels of folate predicts poor outcome with
antidepressant treatments and a greater risk of
relapse after recovery. Like zinc, folic acid
has been shown to enhance the value of
antidepressant medications vs. the medication
with an added placebo.
Vitamin B12 – about 3 to 5% of those living in
Western nations have low blood B12 levels.
Compare this to the B12 deficiency in some 30+
percent of patients with mental health
disorders. Like folic acid, low levels of
vitamin B12 predict a poor outcome to
antidepressant interventions. Experts recommend
1000 micrograms per day for maintenance in mood
support.
Vitamin D – low levels of vitamin D during the
winter months may be involved in seasonal
affective disorder, or the so-called winter
blues. Research has shown benefit of 400 to 800
international units of vitamin D when taken
during the winter – improved attention,
motivation, enthusiasm, and alertness in those
supplemented.
Selenium & Chromium – at least five studies have
shown that low selenium levels are associated
with lowered mood states. Supplementation has
been shown to improve symptoms of anxiety and
depressive mood. Chromium is another
micronutrient that has been linked to
depression. Indeed, four studies have shown that
chromium supplementation is helpful in mood
support, particularly when carbohydrate cravings
are part of the picture.
multi+ daily joy is a high quality multi-vitamin
with added zinc, selenium, chromium, vitamin D,
folic acid and vitamin B12 for a healthy mental
outlook. EPA and other omega-3 fatty acids work
along with these minerals.
